Nutshell: I serve autistic children from 2 to 10 years old by designing individualized treatment programs that focus on increasing skills that will give them the highest possible level of independence throughout their lifetime.
What I’ve Learned: Every day is a new experience and an opportunity to grow and learn. The children that we serve are full of vigor and have taught me more about living in the moment than any meditation guru ever could.
Standout Moment: What fills my cup are those “aha!” moments when a child suddenly picks up a skill that we’ve been teaching for weeks as though they knew it all along. We instruct and assist a child to place each piece into a puzzle, the bell rings for break time and they stand up and put all the pieces in without any assistance to hurry on to play time.
Pet Tales: I am a mother to three cats. I like to snuggle them all when they’ll allow me to. I don’t mind dogs, but I have been bitten 3 times too many to enjoy their company.
Little Known Fact: Something people might not know, but probably won’t be surprised to find out, is that I won the award for most team spirit in my third year of softball. I’ve got spirit, yes, I do!
Favorite season: The first day of winter. It is the shortest day of the year, but I am inspired by watching the days grow as much as I am inspired by watching children grow.
