Katie Heermann

Occupational Therapist (OT) – Kalispell
Since: 2021

Katie worked as a pediatric OT in Texas for over 20 years, and when she saw the listing for that position at Child Development Center’s Early Intervention program, it was “the job she’d been praying for!”

Nuts & Bolts: I work with the families of children ages birth to three years old who are experiencing developmental delays. I work with the family on building skills to help their little ones participate more fully in play, social participation, and activities of daily living (dressing, feeding, etc). We work together to ease routines that are a struggle, using creative problem solving and/or adaptive equipment. Oh, and did I mention that I get to play for a living?

Best Part: I love working with families in their homes. The intimacy, relationship building, and powerful impact is incredible and keeps me excited about my job every day! I love to help families realize that they are the difference makers and that we are here to support them. We get the privilege of joining them in celebrating the progress made by their little ones!

What I’ve Learned: I am endlessly amazed by the resilience of little humans—they are masters at meeting the challenge of any given moment. They don’t let their past, their story, or their individual differences hold them back. They bring their enthusiasm and their curiosity to each challenge, and they do amazing things! I am inspired by them to try to do the same every day.

Little Known Fact: Something that very few people know about me is that I start and end everyday with some movement and some stillness. My current favorites for movements are qigong, kundalini yoga, and dancing. My current favorite “stillnesses” are microcosmic orbit meditation and closing my eyes and relaxing to music tuned to Solfeggio frequencies 285 Hz or 639 Hz.
